Basic Suggested Patterns:

#1 Out pattern

Youth football pass play out pattern pop warner
This pattern is the easiest to teach. Your receiver should make a square out cut on his inside foot (inside being closest to the center) at 4 yards. This will time up the pattern with your QB’s 3 step drop.
He can even make an inside head fake if he can perfect the look. You can run this play when in the middle of the field.
The receiver runs 4 yards in order to time up the throw with the Quarterback’s 3 step drop. There is no fake, the Quarterback should be getting rid of the ball in 1.3 to 1.5 seconds for it all to time up. If the Quarterback is slow in his drop, then the receiver can make his cut at 5yds to adjust the timing of the route.
