Finally, around our 2nd game, I quietly held some tryouts
after practice and found a 175lb. center from the year before that could
catch the football. He became our primary receiver for the rest of the
season. You had to time him with an egg timer, but when you threw it at
him, he caught it. My experience has been that SOMEONE on your squad may
be able to catch the football, even if he doesn’t look like a receiver.
You can get away with receivers that are fairly slow as long as they
catch the ball. At the youth level, that should be your ultimate
criteria when making your receiver selections. |
