PAGE 4 The next step will bring the right foot back until it is planted a foot and a half in back of the second step. The QB should shift his weight onto his back foot, and propel himself forward from his back foot as he starts his release. ( Fig. 1)
After the center snap, the
Quarterback should bring the ball up to his numbers, instead of carrying
the ball at his waist. He can attain a much faster release from
there….it is much more compact. He should have it at this position when
he hits his back step. As the Quarterback turns to his right to
accomplish his footwork, He should strive to keep his eyes straight
ahead and his shoulders parallel with the L.O.S.(Line of Scrimmage) You
can teach him to achieve this flexibility with practice. This technique
allows him to scan the field as needed.
