Play #5 The Bootleg Pattern
 

The “boot” is a great  misdirection play that can cut down pursuit and keep the defense honest  It again, is an easy 12 yd throw. You must teach the Quarterback to throw on the run if necessary. The TE will usually be open, as will the slot back or the HB.

The play is a RUN first, pass second play. The Quarterback  must read the Defensive End to the play side to see if he can break contain. The Quarterback will have blocking help from the fake side guard. He must hide the ball when he turns his back on the LOS, then bring it up to his numbers when he is ready to throw. If he cannot break contain, the Quarterback must pull up and throw right away. The RHB is a good safety valve.
