To help with the inrush current spiking problem I hooked up a car battery as shown below.  Note that if you stop pedaling and let your TV run off the battery and you let it run too long,  you will damage your car battery permanently.   TO avoid this,  you need to purchase a lead acid "Deep cycle" battery which costs more money but can be depleted down to 50% of its capacity hundreds of time before it goes bad.   The deep cycle battery most common in Golf Carts or boats using trolling motor marine batteries.  

You must use proper fuses rated to provide over current protection.  The size of the fuse based on the current carrying capability of the wire you are using.  The national electrical code states that a size 12 AWG wire is good to carry up to 20 Amps.  Therefore you would buy a 20 Amp fuse
