Install the 12" threaded rod as shown above.

b Note that the wing nuts act as locking mechanism, which is to say that once you have the containment nuts where you want them, you hand tighten the wing nut against the containment nut which will cause the containment nut to "Lock" into place. 
c Note that when adjusting the containment nuts, you want as little horizontal play as possible so that the 1.25" x 1.25" square tube can still move up and down, but not very much in the horizontal directions.  This will keep the generator motor square with your bike wheel.
d Also you will need to put 3 flat washers on the rod as shown above.  These will help to reduce friction.
