STEP 7 - (~10 minutes)
- DIY Install generator spring supports
|
| a |
Set the pedal power bike generator in
its normal upright position |
| b |
You need the following pieces of hardware
for this step:
| Description |
Qty |
| Carriage bolt: Length 4", thread size 1/4, threads
per inch (TPI) = 20 |
2 |
| 4 nuts matching the same parameters as above |
4 |
| Springs 2 3/8" length, 1/2" outside diameter. |
2 |
You can get these
here
|
| c |
Install these parts as shown above with
about a 3/4" gap at the bottom of the carriage bolt. |
| d |
WARNING: if you apply too much upward
pressure, the robber roller will wear out too fast and the amount of
friction will waste energy. The way to optimize this is
to back the springs down little by little until your tire starts to
slip while pedaling. Then adjust the spring tension up a couple
of turns. |

I realized after taking this picture
that this step should include putting on lock nuts so these nuts don't
move up and down while pedaling. You can add them if you want
to. |
